Counselling – Support Groups – Advocacy/Outreach – Anti-violence Education
The Quesnel Women’s Resource Centre (QWRC) is a women’s drop-in resource centre located in Quesnel, BC. The QWRC is a non-profit organization and a registered charity founded in 1981. The Centre is run by and for women and strives to be an inclusive and supportive space in which all women can discuss the issues that affect their lives and find the resources and support they need to make informed choices.
The QWRC is located in a heritage home in North Quesnel. All women are welcome to drop by any time that the Centre is open to have a cup of coffee or tea, talk to someone about the issues they are facing, use our public access computer, photocopier or fax machine, or to sign up for one of our on-going programs. All services provided through the Women’s Resource Centre are confidential and free of charge.
Stopping the Violence Counselling: A provincial program providing counselling to groups or individual women who have experienced sexual assault, violence/abuse, or historical abuse.
Stopping the Violence Outreach: The QWRC provides advocacy, support, and transportation to clients in need and those who are the victims of abuse and/or assault.
Drop-in Support Program: Drop-in program plays an important role in the community by providing a safe haven for women needing support through challenges of life, often coinciding with still present gender inequality issues in society and rising numbers of women experiencing abuse and violence. Any of the staff members is always available during office hours to provide immediate support to drop-in clients. QWRC provides a place for community people to get supports ranging from access to phones, faxes, mail services, internet usage, and library resources.
The Community Counselling program offers counselling to adult individuals and families who need support with mental health issues, stress, addictions, and other daily life challenges. We provide one on one counselling, group counselling, outreach counselling, and community integration services with the goal of reaching underserved populations. We have the flexibility to go into the community and to rural and remote areas.
Our Counselling Services are delivered in a number of ways:
In-person (individual/ group) counselling.
Telephone and web-based counselling.
Making Connections – Low-Barrier Support Group: The making connections program’s goal is to support women with experiences of violence, substance use and / or mental health concerns.
Respectful Relationships Program: This program aims to reduce the incidence of relationship violence in the lives of youth by helping them to develop skills and attitudes that are needed for healthy and respectful relationships. It runs in partnership with School District #28 in Correlieu Secondary School.
In addition to the major programs listed above, we also host annual events to protest poverty and violence against women and children and celebrate women’s achievements. We provide assistance in paperwork, referral services, volunteer opportunities. We also facilitate peer support groups. Visit us for support with mental health, addiction, and relationship issues.
